12While there are lots of things about winter that I enjoy, there is also one thing that I can’t stand: those horribly tasteless grocery store tomatoes! Tomatoes that are grown in greenhouses or in other countries are almost always harvested while they are still green. The tomatoes are then stored cold and later ripened with ethylene gas. This creates a fruit that keeps well and is easy to ship, but has almost no flavor.
But don’t worry! Spring is almost here and fresh Florida tomatoes are now available at our Hoover Nursery and Farm Market. Alabama produce will be available soon, but fruits and vegetables grown in southern Florida are still miles ahead of the bland produce we’ve been eating all winter. Come see us at our Hoover Location soon and get back to good food!
