Container Gardens

Due to it’s relative ease and efficient use of space, one of the most popular forms of gardening today is the practice of planting into containers. Because of the simplicity involved in moving and caring for the pots and their contents, containers make it easy for anyone to enjoy plants, anytime of the year. Containers allow for the arranging of several different plant and flower species together, creating a beautiful display of plants across a wide palette of colors. Not only used for flowers, many people who do not have the space for a full-sized backyard plot grow a garden’s worth of vegetables and greens in containers. Herbs do especially well in containers, even when kept indoors the entire season. At Andy’s we can design and plant a container to fit your space, whether indoors or out. We have a great selection of containers to choose from and we will do our best to help you find one to suit your needs. If you have containers at home, we will plant them here or come to your home or office. Proper soil and fertilizer will help get your instant garden off to a great start!

Trees & Shrubs

We carry a wide selection of plant material selected just for our growing zone. With the improvement in breeding techniques today’s plant material blooms longer, in some cases, re-blooms and is more disease and pest resistant.

Evergreen and flowering shrubs are the backbone of any landscape. Whether it is in a foundation planting or a garden border there is a wide range of plant material that can add depth and dimension to your garden. There are two types of shrubs: deciduous and evergreen. Deciduous shrubs such as Lilac, Forsythia and certain types of Azaleas will flower, foliate and then lose their foliage in the fall season.

Evergreen shrubs like Rhododendron, most Azaleas and Andromeda will feature evergreen foliage all year round, flower and then flush with new growth by summer. The benefit of flowering evergreens is that you benefit from the best of both worlds – beautiful flowers in spring and evergreen foliage for privacy and structure to support the overall landscape plan.

Evergreens, or conifers, are generally needled and retain their needles year round. Evergreens can function as a unifying element in the landscape, or in some cases, a focal point. These focal points, or specimens, can add real drama to a landscape.

Annuals

A true annual is a plant that completes its life cycle in one year. This means it goes from seed to seed and then dies off, during the course of one growing season. The whole mission of an annual is to produce seed and propagate. That’s why deadheading or removing spent flowers before the seed matures, produces more flowers and therefore more potential seed.

Some tender perennials are grown as annuals in colder climates. For a perennial to be worth growing as an annual, it must flower profusely in its first year of growth. Pansies, lantana and alyssum are all actually tender perennials.

There are also plants considered to be hardy annuals. This just means that they are able to withstand a little frost without being killed off and will continue to bloom and set seed into the next year, but they will eventually expire. Annuals can be further divided into cool season and warm season. Pansies will fade as the summer heats up. Zinnias won’t even get moving until the nights stay warm. Annual flowers give you the opportunity to have a totally different garden every year.

Statuary

A statue or fountain can make any garden shine. Andy’s has statuary to enhance everything from the smallest to the most elaborate gardens. Our beautiful outdoor water fountains will enrich any space with soothing, mesmerizing water sounds that range from gushing waterfalls to babbling brooks. With a garden fountain your outdoor living space will quickly become a place you can’t wait to go to each day to unwind, relax and enjoy your surroundings. Even in the winter, the fountain can be a sparkling eyecatcher while the rest of your garden lies dormant. Statues are outstanding compliments to garden fountains, and quality garden statues make amazing accents when combined with directional lighting. While the most common use of garden statuary is, of course, in the garden, there is no reason garden statuary can’t be used indoors. Add a matching pedestal to the statue, and you have an attractive entry point in a foyer or entranceway.
